Making the picture clear on CCTV systems

You may think that all CCTV systems are the same but they aren’t. And no one knows this better than those undesirable professionals intent on getting their hands on what is not rightfully theirs. That’s why making sure you choose only high quality systems to protect people and property is of utmost importance.

1. Choosing the right camera.

Selecting the correct camera for each application is crucially important. This will ensure that the required field of vision and image quality is obtained. The correct lens selection, housing, light compensation and filtering is as important as the camera resolution to make sure that the image is clear and sharp without refraction and IR reflection. Varifocal, pan tilt and zoom functionality when combined with correctly programed video analytics and pre-sets will enhance system performance where required.

2. Making sure you have the correct level of data storage.

Some DVR's and NVR's have limitations with data throughput and processing speeds and this coupled with lesser data storage levels can compromise the quality and quantity of images stored for future playback. Careful programming can make most use of your available data storage thus maximising the number of days storage you can obtain without compromising on playback quality. Hard drive storage and graphic card performance must be one of the items considered when purchasing your system.

3. Ensuring you have the correct level of compliant coverage.

Correct siting and positioning of cameras is important to ensure that your system is capable of providing  the level protection you require without invading the privacy of others. A low quality camera located in a shaded position and pointing at a bright scene will provide poor images as will a camera suffering from IR reflection from screens or other nearby objects. Camera locations need careful consideration.

4. Accessing your system when and where you need to.

Remote access to view your system images can be provided. This facility is available on most modern NVR's and DVR but the quality of live and playback images provided can vary dramatically. Main and sub stream performance must be considered when selecting your central unit and careful programming must be undertaken to obtain best performance at your available budget.
